What you'll need
How does Steam Link work?
Yup, Steam Link requires you to log into Steam from a PC. It can be any PC--whether you own it, rent it, or borrow it, that decision is up to you. No PC? No problem. Every purchase of the Backbone One includes trials to the most popular cloud game streaming services, including Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate allows you to play hit Xbox games like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5. Learn more here at playbackbone.com/gamepass/
Any PC with Steam installed is compatible. Windows, Linux, and MacOS are all supported operating systems. No PC? No worries, there are many cloud streaming services that don’t require a console to play recent game titles like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5. Learn more at playbackbone.com/platforms/
Any game installed from your Steam library can be played remotely. You can even download new games remotely through the Steam Link app. Don’t feel like waiting for an installation? Try streaming the title using Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Steam’s list of phone-optimized titles can be found here: https://store.steampowered.com/remoteplay_phone/
Yup. To play a game remotely, you must have purchased it through Steam and installed it on your PC. Don’t worry, if you forgot to download a game before you left the house, you can also install new games using the Steam Link app.
Nope! That’s the beauty of Steam Link. So long as you have a stable internet connection with your phone via wi-fi or cellular data, your Steam library is accessible anywhere. Play from the couch at grandma’s house or from the beach on a remote desert island. Note that your PC must be on with Steam open for Steam Link to be available.
The Steam Deck is a full-fledged handheld gaming computer with its own battery and its own local storage. Steam Link is a feature that allows previously purchased and installed games from a Steam library to be playable from another device (for example a phone.)
